Hi, we recently had to have a shut off valve replaced under our kitchen sink cabinet that went to the hot water going to the dishwasher. After the water was turned back on, the pipes in the tube in one of our bathrooms started making strong vibrations when we turned it from hot to cold. The plumber came back and replaced the balancing spool in the tub and shower. It still makes the noise. Now he is saying that there might be dirt in the valves. Did he have to turn off the water in the whole house when putting in the shut off valve for our dishwasher? Can someone please help me to understand what he is talking about? Thank you in advance.

To replace the stop for the dishwasher another valve had to be closed, likely the main. Opening and closing stpos can cause small buts of debris or dirt to break loose and get stuck in cartridges. It really is not dirt, its more calcium than anything.

Okay, thanks. But can the calcium debris cause the pipes to make that vibration and noise? Did the pressure balancing spool need to be changed or does the line just need to be cleaned?

The debris can cause a partial blockage that makes a washer or cartridge vibrate as the water rushes through it. I'd have to see this spool but most can be cleaned. Once I have a cartridge removed I place a towel over the open valve body and have someone turn the main on and then off to blow the junk out of the line.
