    H1B Resident Status deductions
Last year, I was in dual status (part-OPT, part H1B) and filed a 1040NR-EZ. This year I have become a resident for tax purposes as I have been in H1B throughout 2005. So I have to file 1040/1040EZ. Last year, with 1040NR-EZ, claimed $5000 standard deduction as I am a citizen of India. Can I still claim this deduction as a resident alien? Are there any other deductions I can claim?

    Bondeluv:

Yes, you get a $5,000 standard deduction and a $3,200 personal exemption. On Form 1040EZ, it is combined on Line #5.

The number of deductions and credits available to resident aliens are simply too numerous to address on this forum. You can download IRS Pub 17 (which is 216 pages long) from www.irs.gov to get an idea of what is available, but it is not comprehensive.
