    Hardy plank siding
    I would like to know if you are suppose to put anything up on the outside of your house before you put up the siding.

    Do what Bob says... and check your local building codes too.

    Where I live, and I believe the rest of Canada too, we have to add a rain screen underneath siding. Rain screen is simply a ventilated space behind the siding that allows water to dry out. Picture 2"x1/2"x8' strips of pressure treated plywood nailed vertically every 16" on your house wrap/ tar paper. Then add flashing around doors and windows, then install siding onto the strips.
