I have an old Trane Split System Cooling (X149116P01) combined with a gas furnace. The Compressor motor stopped working and was just changed and afterwards, the blower would work fine for a while and then start cycling on and off. When I shut off the system for a while, it would work again for 20 minutes or so and then do the same thing. The repair people said it was the thermostat which wasn't clicking shut all the way. This was replaced but the same thing keeps happening.

Was the wrong motor installed or was it installed improperly? I'm in Florida and it's 90 F so I need to get this fixed.

Its not uncommon for a compressor and or motor go bad on a old system at the same time. It sounds like your motor is over heating due to a bad run capacitor or just a bad motor, either should not have been caused from changing the compressor out. A bad compressor and a bad fan motor has to totally different symptom. Do you trust your HVAC company your using if not its time to switch.

When you say the blower motor is cycling on and off is the compressor doing the same? If so and your unit is equipped with any safety devices (hi/lo press) the unit may not have been correctly charged after the replacement. Also I've never heard of a t-stat not (not clicking?) completely shut... a loose wire maybe... better find a better company to do your work

The blower goes on and off, but the compressor keeps running. They air people came back and checked again. Said there was a loose connection on the furnace on/off switch and fixed that. They also changed the relay which they said was overheating. (They didn't know why) They will refund the cost of the T-stat and let the prior labor cost cover the work they did at this visit.

But the problem is still there. System works fine for 30/40 minutes and then the blower stops for a short while. 20 seconds to a minute or so and then will start up again. Blower will continue to go on and off until I turn the whole system off. THe compressor never stops until I turn off the system

Now the guy says it might be the blower motor and says it is an old 150 volt model which will be a lot more expensive than the newer higher volt model. This company has the reputation for being honest, but maybe I should get another opinion.

Your unit is old, I can't find any liturature on it... going on, knowing its old and from what this company has told you so far I'd get to looking for another company. For starters if you had a loose connection at your on / off switch the compressor would also shut off. You see the power to operate that relay that starts the compressor comes from the furnace... hence no power or a short even and the compressor will shut down. Find someone else. Also motors don't come in 150V ratings Your getting jacked around.
