    Breaking an apartment lease
How do I break my lease due to my job relocation?

Read your lease and/or talk to your landlord to see what penalties you need to pay to end the tenancy. Make sure you get everything in writing.

Unless you are in the military, then you generally can't break your lease for a job relocation.

So you first need to read your lease and see what provision it makes for job relocation and early termination. If nothing is said, then you have three options:

    1) talk to the landlord and see if you can negotiate a buyout
    2) sublet
    3) try to find a replacement tenant

You should also talk to your job. Some relocation programs will pay for the buyout.
