Terminating residential month to month tenancy in Indiana?
Hi, need to terminate a month to month tenancy in Indiana. I had a lease for the first year of my residence, then at the expiration of that (approx. 7 years ago) continued as a tenant on a month-to-month basis. My landlord had told me that 30 days notice is required, which seems to be true based on Indiana code 32-7-1-3, so I gave him notice on May 15 to move out on or before June 15. Now he tells me I must pay rent on June 1st for the entire month of June because the 30 days notice must be from the 1st of the month. I see no indication of this in Indiana code and cannot find my original lease. So, two questions:

If Indiana code doesn't require notice from any particular day of the month, can the landlord required it based on the initial 1-year lease signed 7-8 years ago?

And, if I cannot locate my lease, is he required to provide me a copy of the lease I originally signed?

Thanks in advance for any information... have to decide by the 1st if I'm truly obligated to a full months' rent for JUne or not.

    Hello ac:

Most landlord tenant laws require the 30 days to cover one complete rental period. It makes sense too, because most landlords can't rent a property from an odd day in the month - and most tenants can't either.
