What could happen to my friend?
My friend has this severe fear of pain and she is afraid to go to the bathroom because she is afraid it will hurt. She always holds it in and she says it even hurts to hold it. That just makes her think it will hurt 10x worse to get rid of it. Is this true? If she took a laxative to soften the stool would it still hurt because I am really worried about her she is basically locking the poison inside her body. Will she die?

This is very serious, all people have phobias but this a biggy, and yes you can die of exteme contapaton, my advice take her to the hostpital at once and see what they say, she needs to get it out and get over her fear of pain, that is bad
    Hope this helps

It's not like she never goes.. she said she's had this problem for YEARS and that after about a week her body like forces it out of her and she says she soils herself a lot I know it sounds gross but I really think she needs help if she can just get over the pain she'll be fine. Would laxatives help?

Fiber and water will definitely help. Even if she drinks a glass of Metamucil or eats some cereals with psyllium and bran.

I think you should take her to the doctor, there could be a serious problem if it hurts that much, and getting a doctor to at least check it out won't hurt anything.

This is not good hun, and is most likely more psychological than physical. She should be seen by a doctor for this. "Holding" it in could cause a fecal impaction which may end up needing surgery.

Be aware of the fact that some people just don't care, and if your friend actually needs to see a doctor, just make sure you get the results needed. It's not a doctor who will help your friend but concerned people like yourself. If you think a doctor will have more concern than you, then to the doctor you should go! Maybe your friend will listen to this doctor,I hope good things happen. My best wishes for your friend to get well real soon

Seeing the best in others, brings out the best in you!
You are getting a lot of Go to the Doctor replies, and hopefully if this problem has gone on for years, as you say, someone should do something about it. I'm concerned that your friend has put up with this Pain and embarrassing uation for years. Why has she confided now? Has she ever confided in anyone in the past about this? Doesn't she go to a Family Doctor for a yearly checkup? What is she going to do? If this is something she needs to have a third party explain for her, show the girl the responses you have, and then ask her to take a copy of these concerned responses to a DOCTOR.
