Does anyone know how to get books published and how much it costs?

BookSurge - the leading provider of self-publishing and on-demand printing services is the publishing arm of Amazon.com. If your book is written and ready to be published, this is one way to go. Same thing with Lulu.com - Self Publishing - Free. Same thing with www.publishAmerica (although they have a bad record)

With BookSurge, the minimum price you will pay is about $499.

Or you can Google "Editors and Preditors" and get a listing of editors, publishers and agents and try to submit the manuscript the more traditional way.

I suggest finding a writers conference in your general area, attend, and take all the sessions offered by agents and editors, and actually meet with an agent/editor for advice.

What is your genre? And in which state do you live? Check out Home for information on a good conference in Georgia.

Personally, I believe publishers should pay you and not the other way round. If you only want a few copies of a book to give to friends an family, you can do it yourself with a desk top publishing program.

If you have written something that you think strangers will buy because it is interesting and well written, start approaching publishers.
