    Witholding Tax Percent
    Hi -

    I live in Atlanta, GA, I earn 48,000 per year, I am married with 1 dependent. What is the percentage of State, federal, medicadre, and social secuity witholding. Please give an example of the calculation.

    Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%) are flat taxes that are withheld at the percentages noted.

    Georgia state taxes are progressive up to about $20,000, but then are capped at 6% for every dollar over $20K.

    The tax for the federal income tax would be $2,211 if you filed jointly with your spouse and assuming that you qualify for the $1,000 Child Tax Credit.
