I have a 91 honda civic that was sitting for 6 years and now will not start. I have dropped the tank and cleaned the tank and changed the fuel pump and changed the fuel pump relay and the fuel filter and it still would not run. I then out a another fuel pump relay( new) and the car still would not start. I then removed the injector to see if they were puming any gas and they are not pumping any gas. I then performed the K test as grease monkey recommended and it appeared that the ecu was faulty, so I changed the ecu. Now the car still will not start. WHen you turn the key on the check engine light comes on along with the others and does not go off. The oil light goes off after you turn the engine over a few times. When yiou turn the key on you do not hear the fuel pump run or any clicking of the relays. SOMEONE CAN YOU HELP ME WHAT ELSE SHOULD I DO.

The two remaining areas you need to check, assuming the replacement ECM is good, are:

Be sure to clean the main ECM ground, located on the thermostat housing.

I can't find the ecm ground----where is the thermostat housing --do you have a picture I am going now to and see if the switch is sending power to the relay, However when you bypass the relay with a jumper wire it pumps and fuel is getting to the injectors--and if you push gently on th enjectors they will sray fuel so they are not stuck or clogged up --that is good---I am going to check the ignition switch -----thanks a lot G-M you have been a big help

I found the ground cleaned it and still will not start ---- I am begginning to get a little discuraged and about to bring it to the shop --but boy I hate to admit defeat--so any other recommendations will be helpful

If the Check Engine Light stays on, it's related to either a blown fuse, bad main relay, bad ECM, or bad ignition switch. That's pretty much it. Identify which one and you solve the mystery. Never give up!

This bad main relay you are referring to -----is the fuel pump relay and the relay you are talking about the same or is there another relay I need to check------the only thing I have not changed is the ignition switch-----perhaps I have not found all the fuses ---may be there is some in line fuses some where... thanks for the encouragement --I think I will keep on a few more days before I admit defeat and take it to a shop.

Check and see if you have an ACG (S) (ALT) fuse (likely Fuse No. 24) in the under-dash fuse box. There is only an under-hood fuse box and an under-dash fuse box. I helped a Navy aircraft mechanic on this site identify that a fuse (No. 24) in his Civic's under-dash fuse box was missing. Turns out one of his "buddies" removed the fuse as a prank. It left him stranded for a week, until he finally checked and saw there was no fuse in the slot.

Another thing you can try is turn the ignition switch to ON and unplug the connector going to the MAP Sensor. If the CEL goes out, the MAP Sensor is bad. If the CEL stays on, then reattach the MAP Sensor connector and do the same thing with the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). If the CEL goes out, the TPS is bad.

Yes, the main relay is the only relay you need to worry about. In a situation like this, the problem tends to be a blown ACG (S) (ALT) fuse or a bad ECM.

What and where is the acg(s) (alt) fuses I put a test light on all fuses under dash and under hood and there is a little 4 pack fuse holder that has fuses and I checked those also and they were all good andI replaced the ecu maybe I received a faulty one

Make sure the ACG fuse in that 4-pack area is good. My bet is the ECM is bad.

Run the K-Test on the "new" ECM. If it fails, there's your problem.

The part no. on the new ECM must EXACTLY match the old one. You can't interchange an ECM going to an automatic transmission Civic with one going to a manual transmission.

Remember, the ECM is a giant "power transistor." If you don't have 5 volts going to the MAP Sensor, your injectors won't be getting power.

The map sensor was good, so I checked the fuses one more time and found one fuse that was blown------how I missed that one is beyond me because I have checked those fuses 3 or 4 times however one fuse was bad--fuse number 12 or 14 anyway I changed that fuse and heard a clicking under the hood and it was inside the distib and then the pump started running. I turned the key into start position and it cranked first try and runs like a champ. I will look and get the exact fuse number and post it for information for other folks. The ACG (S) (ALT) fuse is No. 12, if you don't have the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
