    Abnormal pap smear ascus
ASCUS Atypical cells Benign? What? Maybe someone can help me. I was pregnant and had a pap and it was negative. The doc never mentioned it and then when I went for my 6 week check up they said the wanted to do another one and I knew that wasn't routine for a 6 week checkup so I asked what's up, why, basically. The doc told me I had ASCUS benign what does that mean? Anyone know? And I believe he said not cancerous? Well that pap came back abnormal and I think but not sure I just got over bleeding like 1 day before that test could that be the problem? Two more days and doc appt. If everything is normal should I get that gardisil shot? I'm 28.

In general terms it means you had some abnormal cells, which is not necessarily unusual, and they will do a follow up. If things are fine you may or may not continue with your pap smears on the schedule you have been following, or they may want to do another check in a few months time just to see that things remain normal. Sometimes just another smear is done, sometimes they will do a biopsy if they locate any area that they want to check more thoroughly. It's a quick procedure done right in the doctor's office. Your bleeding won't effect the test.
Whether you should start the series of gardisil is up to you and your doctor, but it is certainly something to consider. Your doctor will go over any potential risks and benefits.

Are there some things not do prior to the pap smear that could alter the results?
