I currently have an underground conduit that runs up my yard to an outlet box. In that outlet box, I have a switch and an outlet. It appears that the switch works both the outlet adjacent to it and another outlet that runs above it. This wiring has to be about 20 to 30 years old. Would I be able to just replace the switch and the outlets and make it work. The current stills runs. What updates do I have to do? I would like to have 1 outlet and maybe a light post but am unable to figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks

It has 2 separate lines coming into the box.

A GFI receptacle would be a good update, They way it was may not be what you want?
You could Have a GFI in Bottom first box, then up to switch, and switch to light, the white wire goes from GFI to Light. Connect all grounds.

You don't need two GFCI outlets. One will work fine. One GFCI can protect anything downstream. The wiring diagram is in the box.

A ground should have been run to the outlet. Check.

You actually don't need a ground for the GFCI to work, but you have to use the label that says it's not grounded.

When you wire outlets, you wire the ground wire to the outlet and then you pigtail a small green wire (you can buy it already made up with a screw) to the box if it is metal.
