A friend gave us a GE side by side Refrigerator. We hooked the water line up to the back of the refrigerator, and we have water in the door, but no water is going to the ice maker. What should we look for? Any help would be appreciated!!

On top of the ice maker there is a small metal arm. If it is the UP position, roughly horizontal to the ice maker, lightly push the arm down.
That arm is an indicator that the ice bucket is full.

It takes about 24 hours before it will make ice if after you hook it up
