Grey roots- dark dye fading- needs dying every week to remain covered
I have been colouring my hair dark brown for years and attempting to touch up the roots every two to three months but I am tired of fighting the grey. I would actually like to have a dark blonde (without red) the kind of colour that hides the grey but does not require work to keep up as the grey blends in?! I have very thick hair - shoulder length that tends to be frizzy, naturally curly and very rough textured.
At the moment the roots are yellow grey, the mid part of the hair orangy and the under parts dark brown turning red thanks to not dying to keep up the race against time for a few weeks.
I find none of the hair dyes I have used lasts more than a couple of weeks at the colour I desired brown and the roots just don't take colour any more however expensive the dye and the promises on the packet.
How do I go back to basics and then lighten slightly and change the colour to an acceptable dark blonde without going orange or yellow in the process please? I want to stop dyeing and start living! Waiting for it to all go grey is sad- I wouldn't mind grey so much if it just all was even, but multi colour is a nightmare and the dyes are not nice to use regularly and I fear have ruined my hair entirely

Dark blonde with some red in it- but probably would be grey by now

I presume it would be mostly grey now but original colour was a reddish light brown a very long time ago

Awh honey. I think you should go see a professional to even out your colour.
Grey hair is sometimes quite resistant to colour, that's why you find it doesn't take to your hair. A hairdresser pre softens the hair then applies the dye so that the colour takes to the hair.
