    Payne or Amana
Need help in deciding which one to install

    Both are 3950.00 installed

Payne - 14 seer, 4 ton, condenser unit, air handler, heat strip with no heat pump. Offering only a 5 yr warranty and will maintain unit for 5 years.

Amana- 14 seer, 4 ton, condenser unit, air handler, heat strips (15KW), no heat pump. Offering a 10 parts and labor warranty along with lifetime warranty on the outside condenser.

I live in a modest 4 bdrm, 2000 sq ft home. The airhandler is in the hallway in its own closet.

Currently, my Lennox is not cooling because the evaporator coils are leaky. This was purchased in 1987.

Please help me make a wise decision. Also, the co. offering Payne seems to have better installers. They Payne guy said the Amana co may take short cuts on installation. I have heard that installation is paramount to good performance.

    BUT the install is important

The amana guys might say the payne guy takes short cuts also.

    Who knows.

Right now Payne is offering 10 year parts if you register it online. Payne is basically same as Carrier and Amana is same as Goodman. My preference would be Payne.. but do homework on your contractor... who will be there on the hot days in July on a Sat. if you need them!

Why didn`t the payne guy make you aware of the 10 year parts warranty,, I would question,, nothing wrong with the Amana/goodman units the parts are much more available and less parts to go bad, Payne/carrier seem to need parts that others don`t need, and they are higher in cost,, I WILL agree,, the experanced ,expert installer is very important

The extended warranty is something new. If you do research in these types of "Help Forums" you will see many Goodman issues and very few Carrier issues. That would tell me which units have a better service record.
