Is there anything I could do to wrap the hoses for my dish machine so animals could not chew through them? 2 years ago and now again they have chewed through the hoses and the first time it cost $400 to repair and now I guess I will have to buy a new machine. Before I do is there anyway they hoses can be protected from these "rats". I have had the house base netted and some holes closed up. I have had traps in the house for 2 weeks and "nothing" was trapped. Help please if you have any information. Thank you. Joan:confused:

Nothing I know of will protect a hose from a rat, they can chew through metal. I would bait the area under the machine so they eat the nice smelling baitrather than the hose.

Thanks for nothing. Yes, It will be cheaper to get a new machine than repair a 7 year old one. And I have had wire netting put up around the base of the house and had several holes sealed - I have also had traps set for 5 days and nothing was caught! So I am still looking for something that might save me another 2 year disaster. Maybe I am just looking for trouble.
Someone suggested wrapping the hose with a mesh like brillo without soap so I am going to ACE tomorrow. Thanks for your help. Joan:eek:

Maybe Tom and I misunderstood you or vice versa. Rats will eat almost everything if they are hungry, even hose. They will eat rat bait long before the hose so the bait will attract them before they nibble on your hose. I assumed the $400 was to repair the washer and everything else that got damages when the water shot out of the eaten hose. A new machine isn't needed in this situation and they'd eat the new hose too so try the bait.
