    Statue of limitations felony
Hi I was wondering if there is a statue of limitations for felony theft in ca. and if so how does it work?

    Hello s:

I'm sure there is. I don't know what it is, though. It starts when the crime is reported or discovered by the police and it ends when it does. If they don't charge someone within that time, they can't ever be charged.

Your statute is probably 3 years.

It's kind of complicated and the type of theft and possible sentence enter into play: California Penal Code §§ 799-805.

(I was surprised when I read this.)
