I am deathly afraid to talk in front of others, in fact I did not continue my college education because I am afraid of speaking in in front of others. My lawyer just informed me that I will have to take the stand at the divorce hearing in front of many people. I am very nervous and already losing sleep.

He said that I can have someone else attend for me but I do not want to impose on someone else.

What would happen if I do not show? I assume I would not gain my share, is that correct?

Yep. If you don't show, you are making your spouse's case much easier.

Try to get over the talking. Concentrate on the lawyer and only the lawyer. If you really feel like you can't, then send someone else.

You don't want to impose? Well, have a friend or family member do this for you, then take them out for dinner. Then you're even. And besides, you aren't really imposing. A true friend/family who cares/loves you would gladly do this for you. It's not like you're asking them for huge favours all the time.

Oh God, how sweet it would be if you could muster up the courage to go and speak for yourself, because he know you well enough to know of your phobia, and is counting on it, what I slap in the face it would be to see you dressed to the nine and speaking eloquently in public. Awh, the dawning of a new day, I'm better without you. I can see it now. Msnoseyb would love to be a fly on that wall, by the way my condolences for your loss.:)
