9 HP Briggs and Stratton will not keep running
This is a craftsman wood chipper, with the 9HP engine. It was running 2 years ago. If I pour gas in the carb it will start and continue to run as long as I am pouring gas. I know gas is reaching the carb from the tank, the gas line was leaking and I replaced it.

This weekend I was planning on removing the carb and cleaning it.

I wanted to know if anyone has any other suggestions?

    Thanks
    Scott

The float valve is located in the bowl which is under the carburetor. There is a screw underneath the bowl. Try losing this screw one turn. This adjusts the needle valve that he controls the flow of gas to the carburetor. If you have a manual for the engine, it should give the number of turns it should be backed off from closed.
You may want to remove the bowl, which houses the float valve, and make sure things are not gummed up.

Your problem is that gas is not getting to the carburetor.
Before putting your chipper away for the winter, did you run the engine until all of the gas was gone?
If not, you probable have a gumming issue with the float valve, located in the bowl beneath the carburetor.
Also, there is an adjustable needle valve beneath the bowl which houses the float valve.
Try backing this off on turn and then crank your engine and see if it stay running.

You probably have gum in your carb. Your needle may be sticking, your needle seat may be swelled, yes clean the carb and inspect carefully.

I have a craftsman wood chipper, with the 9HP engine. Once I get it started and it's warmed up all is fine, but getting it started the first time is nearly impossible. Why?
