Heat pump exhaust fan will not start
I have a payne heat pump which was heating fine a week ago. We are now having a heat wave and when I turned on the cooling yesterday it tripped the circuit breaker. I reset the breaker and it seemed to work fine. Today I turned on the cooling and the unit was buzzing but the exhaust fan was not working. I took a long stick and turned the fan which made it run. However I turned off the unit for a few minutes, restarted, and the fan wouldn't run. This time I spun the fan in the opposite direction and it spun fine. My question is , in the heat mode it blows air out of the unit. In the cool mode isn't the fan supposed to suck air into the unit? Also I had a new compressor installed in Jan. 07. Today after I spin the fan it doesn't seem to be blowing any cool air. HELP! THANK YOU!

Are you talking about the fan that is in the outside unit? With the compressor?
If so, I would take a look at the starting capacitor. It gives the motor a little extra "oomph" during starting so it will run. Sometimes the capacitor is a combo unit that has two connections--one for the fan and one for the compressor. If you can replace it yourself, it is a $20 or so item.

    Best of luck,
