    Grandmothers visitation rights in Alabama
Hello, I live in Phil Campbell Alabama. My son and his girlfriend has a baby girl, born April 3rd 2008. I was at the hospital when the baby was born, my son took me to see her. His girlfriend and I do not get along at all even though I have tried to get along with her. I keep trying to talk to her and see my granddaughter but she refuses. My son has said he has tried to get her to change her mind but she will not budge. A few days ago I ask my son if I could come see the baby and he said yes so I went to see her at their house while he was there. I did not get to hold her but at least I got to see her. After I got home, my son's girlfriend called me and threatened to have me put in jail if I came back to her house (which is in her name only). I tried to ask her what have I do to you do deserve this and she hung up. I do not smoke or drink, I am buying my own home and my daughter and her two children are living with me. I am not a bad person and for the life of me I can not understand what I have done. Do I have any rights in Alabama I am willing to fight for my rights.

Well in Alabama you do have significant rights:

    Grandparents

But before you take the mother of your grandaughter to court, I would strongly recommend you try some sort of mediation. Does she go to church, what about her parents? Find someone who's opinion she respects who will act as a go-between to find out why she does not want you around her daughter. Save legal action as a last resort.

But, since she owns her house then she can enforce that you do not enter the house.
