I'm a single mother who made some bad choices in my past I am paying for them but want to one day over come and become a mother my child can be proud of I want to become a physical theropist in jonesboro Arkansas but I've heard that I can't get help with my felonies what can I do?

I don't know about the laws where you would want to work. I do know that where I live, anyone convicted of a felony would have difficulty going to school to pursue a career at something that is health care related. Are you open to other possibilities as far as what you might do for a job? What is it that you were convicted of, please? It might make a difference as far as the jobs that you can go for depending on what your conviction concerned.

First I would check with the state license board and see if someone with your felony can get a license. There are many occupations that have restrictions on getting a license.

As for as grants, check with the school you want to attend

Where I live, in Illinois, depending on what someone's conviction was; the amount of time that has passed/good things accomplished in a persons life since their conviction, people can apply for waivers so that they can get degrees or licenses to work in certain health care occupations. Perhaps a similar program exists where you live?

How that came about, was because a number of years ago, the background checks for people working in places like hospitals and nursing homes became much more thorough and the requirements more strict for people to be able to work in those kinds of places. Some people who had already been working successfully for years all of a sudden were let go because of the stricter requirements. The problem was, that a lot of those people had already proved their worth and were very excellent at what they did. So, the state came up with a waiver program for people to either keep their jobs and/or be able to get and maintain the proper qualifications to be employed in a health care profession.
