Baby Tossing, a Muslim ritual?
I was shocked to see the baby tossing ritual on the news.
There is a man on top of a domed building tossing naked,crying babies from the top onto a white sheet held by many men.
And to see the babies bounce off the sheet as they land,that gave me chills.
How can any parent let their babies be thrown down a building and believe that it will bring luck to the parents or the baby.
This tradition of baby tossing for good luck has no basis in the Quran or Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad(pbuh).
Just because the baby tossing ritual has existed for many years does not mean that it is right or Islamic.
Quran (26-69,89)
"And recite to them the story of Ibrâhim (Abraham).
When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?"
They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted."
He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)?
"Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?"Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?"Nay, but we found our fathers doing so."Nay, but we found our fathers doing so."Do you observe that which you have been worshipping,
"You and your ancient fathers?
"Do you observe that which you have been worshipping,
"Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me;
"Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists);
"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me;
"And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink.
"And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection),"
My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous;
And grant me an honourable mention in later generations;
And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight;
And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring;
And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected;
The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail,
Except him who brings to Allâh a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifâq (hypocrisy)]."
To believe that a stone,a rock,an ornament or a ritual that isn't prescribed in the Quran and Sunnah will bring blessings from Allah(swt) is not right.We should only turn to Him in our prayers for blessings.
Allah(swt) is the All knowing,Most merciful and our children are a blessing,a gift and we should look after them well with love and care to the best of our abilities.
