When I flush my toilet it takes at least 15 minutes to fill back up. The toilet in my other bathroom fills in about 3 minutes. Any advice?

Yes, it's the first one. My boyfriend replaced the whole works last summer which is when it started this slow-filling business.

The Fluidmaster can clog up or have a swollen seal. The seal is probably fine since the issue was there day #1. Check out solution #5 of this site. Troubleshooting a Fluidmaster Ballcock I think your BF may have dislodged some debris when he installed the unit.

Well, I tried the # 5 and was really thinking that it would do the trick. But now I'm getting zero water filling up the tank. Do you think it's the seal? And is that the thing underneath the adjustable height valve body?

Also, when I was removing the cap it was more difficult and clumsy than I anticipated, so did I maybe disrupt something I shouldn't have?

Tom's taking a break right now but he'll be back. In the meantime maybe we should confirm a good flow of water at the stop below the toilet. Close the stop by turning counterclockwise and then open the connection between the stop and the toilet. Grab a bucket and towel and direct the line into the bucket. Open and close the stop to confirm a good supply. Come back with your results please.

What happens when you push down on the float arm?

It's a Fluidmaster 400a , no float arm but she could try pushing down on the can. I doubt it will do much because it is filling just very slowly, a stuck can would likely not fill at all.

You guys are my new heroes. I finally ended up pulling off the fill line and it was clogged in BOTH the water shut off part AND in the fill line with what looked like plumber's tape or maybe glue. But it is now filling normally and I can say I did it myself, with a little help from my friends!

I also want to add that your very first answer was probably correct, but while I was trying it, most likely I pushed the debris down with the coat hanger and that's why it went from slow fill to no fill!

When you push down on the float it opens up the ballcock allowing water to enter the tank. Cheers, Tom
