I have read and re-read answers to similar questions, but I am still looking for a solution to my problem. My toilet tank is empty! And when I push the handle on the toilet tank, nothing happens. I filled the tank up with water, which took a long time, flushed the toilet and all the water drained out and the tank did not re-fill. I've looked at all of the parts - the ball is not too high, the flap seems to be OK, though it is extremely dirty and I now have that "black stuff" all over my hands. Is there any other solution other than replacing the whole unit?

Have you turned the water on to the toilet? There is probably a shut off valve located between the tank and the floor that needs to be turned on. Try looking for this.

There are several things you can try. Shut the water off under the tank, unscrew the three screws and pull the float ball and stem assembly up and out. Place a pan over the open ball cock and turn the water back on. Do you have a stream now? Let me know. Tom

Based on your quote you are saying you found the stop cock was closed. I am a bit confused about how this stop cock could have been closed without your knowledge, can you fill us in?
