Adding a stand up shower in basment
    Hi,
I don't know much about plumbing, so my question might be dumb... sorry if it is!

Right now we have a half bath in the basement (toilet and one sink) and we'd like to add a stand up shower but there is only one drain in the concrete that the toilet is on. Is there a way for the shower to somehow share with the toilet or can it be connected to the main sewer pipe? There is a small basement window where we want the shower to go, would that work for venting?

    Thank you.

    Hi Shoe:

The shower can connect into the toilet drain underground by installing an appropriate wye fitting. It means digging up around toilet drain and digging out the dirt and cutting in a new fitting... then running new pipe AND VENT for the new shower.

The window can not act as a vent!

Now, the shower may be able to use the vent for the sink, but that will depend on whether vent is present for sink and if the pipe is 2" (called wet venting the toilet and shower)

Are you planning to try to do this yourselves.. Or planning to have plumber come in and do it for you..

Let me know what you think... MARK
