Hi, Everyone.

My Kohler 22HP engine has quit charging the battery. I replaced the voltage regulator, to no use. It is solid state electronics, so it does not incorporate the starter as a generator in the electrical system. Someone suggested it could be the magneto. What could go wrong in the magneto? Can a do-it-yourselfer test it?

Can't be the magneto. The magnito produces spark.

The starter has to act as a generator. Look for bad connections and/or fusable links.

Some starters don't act as generaters. To check if it does act as a generator look in the manually but read through it thourohly or you won't find it.

I think they are referring to the stator. Check to see if the magnets or windings are damaged. If you had the proper tester and diagrams, you could probably test it yourself.
