Location of water pipes in attic
I am trying to locate the water pipes in my attic. I went up and moved insulation around by where the water heater pipe should come up but no pipes. How do I find them? Thanks

Are you quite sure they're even in the attic? I need you to answer some questions for me. Are you on a slab? Has your house ever been repiped? What makes you think your water pipes are overhead. We don't run water in the attic unless we're repiping a house. That way if there's a leak it won't come cascading down on top of your furnishings. Back to you, Tom

Thank you for quick response. House is on a slab, no repiping. I just figured, and probably incorrectly, that the pipes were in the attic because the hot water pipe leaving the water heater goes up from the top of the heater before it disappears in the wall-don't know whether it goes up into the attic or back down into the slab. I was going to use those foam insulator tubes to insulate the pipes in an attempt to get hotter water in my shower-which is at the other end of the house from the water heater.

I live on the West Coast Of Florida where all our houses are on a slab and I can tell you that your water pipes are under the slab. About the only way you wii get faster hot water to that farthest bath would be to install a recirculating system on the water heater or I have installed small heaters near the bath to maintain hot water flow. In my area we are faced with this all the time. Hot water heater in the garage. Master bath at the other side of the house. You have all that cool water to run out of your pipes before it even begins to get warm. I've been after Developers to install a "kicker heater" or a recirculating system for years but unless the contract calls for it,( and in most cases it doesn't) they don't wish to incur the extra expense. Regards, Tom
