I just found out that my bank account is frozen. I need to pay my mortgage. If I open another account in another bank can they freeze this one too? I live check by check.
Thank you.

Hello Sring22
In order for a bank account to be frozen a judgement had to have been granted from a court. Did you receive a paper to appear in court? If you did and you ignored it the creditor most likely got a default judgement which gives them the right to attach accounts or garnish wages{depending on the state you live in} Once a judgement is given the creditor has little reason to settle, If you open another account it will be just a matter of time before they find that one to.
Yes its posssible they will find the new account and once they do, they can attach it too.
As slow pointed out, they had to have received a judgement against you. If you ignored notices about this judgement, then you bought this on yourself. However, if this is the first you became aware of the judgement, there are ways (check similar questions in this and the Credit forum) to fight it. Let us know so we can try to help more.
Yes they can, what happens to open a new account they run a credit check almost always, first the new bank may not even allow you to open one if they know the other one is frozen, but with that the people with a judgement can trace it, it may take a few weeks to a few months but it can be traced.
I did receive letters from the collection agency but nothing from the court. Several months ago I tried to pay (different collection agency) but they were aking too much money monthly. I new I couldn't pay because I was unemployed. I have less than six months in my new job. What can I do next? I was thinking of going to see a lawyer. By the way I live in New York.
