    Breaking a lease
Can I sue my landlord for breaking our lease if he lost the house in a foreclosure sale and I have to move before the end of the lease term? The good part is that I got a few month rent free.

Sure you can sue. But if your landlord lost the house because he couldn't pay the mortgage, do you really think that you'll be able to collect if you win a judgment against him?

And if you got a few months of free rent then a judge may decide that you didn't suffer any damages and you won't win the case.

How did you get free rent ? Actually if you were refusing to pay the landlord because they were in the middle of the foreclosure, they may actually be able to sue you for the rent.

You are libel to pay rent to the landlord the entire time he owns the property, so while he was in the process of foreclosure you owed rent that entire time.
