20o4 Volvo V70 turbo wagon. What is a 'position light'? It shows as bad in the info screen but I can find no reference to it in the owner's manual and my code reader doesn't acknowledge it

    Is the shifter working properly?
That message may pertain to the transaxle position switch. If it's malfunctioning, there may be no code, only a message.

Thank you for that; no issues shifting but I've not checked that bulb. Just assumed that it would not be a monitored item.

From other forums it appears that this light is supposed to indicate that a bulb is blown (usually a tail light) and removing them and reinserting them to ensure good contact will usually rectify the problem. In some instances, some or all of the (working) tail bulbs had to be replaced to fix it.

    Good luck.

May very well be; this car eats left low beam headlights, although the last time it was as you say-took it out, it looked good, put it back. Works fine. (The really burned out bulbs were obvious) I will reseat the tail lights and see what happens. Thanks

I certainly will; I am not exactly looking forward to checking all of the light sockets; I am trying to fit in resuscitating my '91 740 so I can park my 1 ton diesel p/u for a while. "Spare" time is short for everyone. Thanks to all of you that have replied

Incidentally, the shifter indicator light is fine.
