    Plumbing for slab foundation
I know little about plumbing, We are about pouring a slab foundation and all plumbing need to be done before pouring a slab. My question is does 4" pvc pipes must under dirt or can they be in the concrete beam itself? Thanks - tonya

    Hi Tom,

Sorry for the confusion. Can 4" pipe install within the beam of the foundation (foundation wall)? What my concern is the weight of concrete might damage the pipe. Thx - Tonya

Put your fears to rest. The concrete will harden around the pipe and be supported by itself and not the pipe. Check with your local building department to be certain that running through a footer's allowed. You may have to 45 under the footer or install a larger pipe as a chase. Good luck, Tom

    Tom,

Why does it need to apply black asphalt around the pvc pipes that in slab foundation? What is the purpose for it? Thx - Tonya

    KISS
I can think of a good reason: It would allow the pipes to move a bit (expansion/contraction) because the bond to the pipe and the concrete would not be strong.

The tar will insulate and protect the PVC from any chemical interaction between the plastic and cement. Regards, tom
