98 Honda Civic lost pick up not smooth
    Hi All,

I have a 98 Honda Civic LX just crosses 100000 miles and recently it has lost its pick up and smoothness. I know Civic's are not high power cars but its not the same as it was couple of months ago. Its goes as if it does not want to or as if I am driving it on a lower gear. Its not smooth at all. I got new tires, got tune up too. I am not sure where I am losing the power. Some one recommended me to change Transmission oil and use transmission treatment. Another told me change the timing belt and water pump. Does timing belt and transmission oil effect pick up. Can I do some tests to narrow down the cause.

    Kindly let me know,
    AJ

. Ensure the spark plugs (NGK only), distributor cap, and rotor are new.

    . Replace fuel filter:

. Change transmission fluid, if it has not been done in the last 24 months or 24,000 miles.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Do you think timing belt would make a difference. Some one told me, each time the timing slips on the belt (since its an old belt) the power decreases and the belt is slipping. Is this true ? Kindly let me know.

    Regards

No when the timing belt slipsa notch it will not run or run very bad.I just had a 99 civic that had to change the timing crank sensor.put it on a dianose machine and see if it has any codes, will do it mostly after about 20 miles.
