Hello and welcome, most airlines have rules about the travel of children flying alone between the age of 5 and 11, some have rules for children up to the age of 15, so you will have to check with the specific airline you are flying on.

No you do not need a passport for travel within the US, but having one is never a bad idea of course

    Karen, how old are you?

Most airlines have a policy in place that is called "Unattended Minors" in which the children who are minors are watched by the flight crew from the airport of origin, in your case Indiana, to the airport of destination, California.

Hi, my 11 year old daughter recently travelled interstate (Australia) to stay with family during the school holiday and on her return flight, they wanted her to produce identification at the airport. Her bank card was fine. It could be an idea to check with the airlines to see what sort of ID you might need.

When my now 18 year old son (then 17) and daughter went to the UK early last year, they had no choice but to be escorted the whole way. As there was a stop-over in Singapore, it was appropriate, and I think my son actually appreciated not having needed to take so much responsibility. Again, check with the airline about your younger brothers.
