My laptop has a broken cdrom & floppy drive. The hard drive says it has a virus and cannot locate where the message gets generated from. Conclusion: Reload Windows. Who can reload the software for me.

No one can. You need your original Windows CD. I guess you'll have to buy a new cdrom drive for your laptop.
Hi,
I am so sorry to read about your drives not working. I do agree with buying another CD-ROM drive, because actually, it will be almost impossible to install anything; except from online, especially windows.
Best of luck.
I hate to repeat myself, but people should always make a backup or ISO CD of their new PCs or Laptops and keep them in a safe place.
BACKUPS are a must these days since you don't get hardcopies anymore. Also reading your manuals, and/or instructions first before 'playing' is 'better safe, than sorry' later.
Contact your distributor, get your equipment repaired if it's still has a warranty and you might be lucky in getting it fixed by them.
Good Luck!
Agree with Need,Fred, and Chery. My PC came with XP pre-installed.All I've got is a Recovery disc, with the OS files, driver files, plus all the necesarry files to get me "up and running".Where my configeration is today, hence a lot of media,office,anti-virus,firewall,etc,files,are all on a separate disc.I also have Service Pack 2,on a separate disc, should everything "go pear shape".Even then,I would have to re-activate with MS,plus download loads of security update files, and update all my other software of course.Would be a nightmare.
Unfortunately, this is what we all should do, and backup each new app we install too. It's a lot of work, but worth it in many cases. There are some reasonable external hard-drives on the market that would also be worth looking at so you don't have to search all your CDs/DVDs. Just got one for my birthday and use it to backup twice a week. Only had to re-register and re-authenticate once, but there should be no problem if I need to do it again one day. Machines, like people are not always 100 percent perfect.Quote:

It's a pain to get messages such as "in use and cannot be backed up", but I guess we all have to put up with it.
Hey Nez, love those vegies!
Direct from the MS main site, for those with XP,entitled:
Windows XP Backup Made Easy.
It is however,a bit of a read, but worthwhile in the long run.If your usiing XP Home you will need to "find your disc",to place in your Rom Drive.XP Pro users will not have to bother.

PS.I've now installed a cabbage. :D
You are right, a lot to read. Microsoft still benefits sometimes, but it's too linked and long-winded sometimes.Quote:
