I have a Hunter fan that has worked fine for 3 years. Now when I try to turn it on it won't spin. I hear the switch trying to turn the fan on through all speed settings. (low, med, and hi) but it won't turn on. The light turns on using the remote and I did change the battery in the remote. Anybody got an answer for this? Thanks!

Have you tried to change the motor in the fan... if not I think that might help.

Thanks Dark Angle but I was hoping there was a more simple solution like some fairy dust or a magic wand I could wave over the fan. Swapping out (not to mention finding) a motor sounds like a lot of trouble. Looks like I have to hit HD or Lowe's this weekend. Thanks for the reply nonetheless and have a nice weekend.

OK you need a test meter for this so I hope you have one or get it at HD for $6. Open the canopy, put your leads to the black wire and the white wire, use remote to turn on and test for power. Now do the same for the blue wire and white wire, test for power. If you have power coming from both black and blue but only the light works you probably will be shoopping for a motor. Let me know if you had power for both black and blue.

Dark Angle, you don't replace the motor in the fan.

Ballenger, clearly they have power as they can hear the relay selecting speeds when they use the remote. Also since it is a remote fan it will only have two wires.

You need to replace the receiver in the fan, this is a part that can be obtained from Hunter. Contact them directly. Hunter Fan

Ceiling, you are correct as usual but I was thinking of testing the blue and black off the receiver but did miss the part about hearing the clicks.

Not all receivers mount in the canopy with the 5 wire setup. However it's a good point that, if this is the case, the fan may have come disconnected from it.

There are two electrical capacitors which help start the motor, when they fail the fan will not turn when the speed switch is used, or the chain. You can find them in the housing below the fan motor. They are easy to replace. Call Hunter and give them the model number which is on the motor housing. They can help with the diagnosis and they sent me the two capacitors. Hope this works.

USUALLY the capacitors are built into the remote receiver so you replace the receiver as a whole, not just the capacitors.
