Troubleshooting reading on OBD2 P0133 code in my honda civic 1998 ex
Hoping this is not trick question; you can simply Search on web and get the literal answer. That being said, the Oxygen Sensor called Bank 1 is located at inflow to Catalytic Converter; some cars have a second, less important Bank 2 Oxygen Sensor after the Cat Converter to check on how converter is performing. But the front Oxy Sensor is primary one responsible for sending information to the On Board Computer, which in turn adjusts various engine controls to result in least pollution emissions out exhaust. This may be minor problem, or indication the Oxygen Sensor needs replacing. If engine seems to perform the same or well, particularly after warmed up, then likely not a problem. Usually when a mechanic or other person connects a OBD Tester to the OBD computer connection under the dashboard, it will erase the computer’s memory and warning light too. If not, then disconnect the battery (or remove the specific “fuse” that powers the OBD computer) for a few minutes, and then reconnect power. The Engine Warning light should be gone; after driving a few days hopefully the warning light will not appear again, so it was just a glitch of no concern (you may try this more than once if light returns to be sure). Anyway, if Engine Warning light still appears after being removed as above and same code P0133 returns, then likely that Oxygen Sensor will need replacing. But remember that typically the engine will not perform as well as usual with a bad Oxygen Sensor (especially Bank 1). If car is running normally and your State does not have Emissions testing, then really up to you to fix or not. But engine performance may be suffering some. Sensor costs $50 - $100 and installation varies with car and mechanic.Quote:
