    Mystery pipe
    Hello,

I have sort of plastic pipe sticking out of the ground next to the back of the house:

It 4" wide and sticks about 6" out of the ground. For visual reference, the black hose next to it is a soaker hose.

Does anyone know what this is? We bought the house 8 months ago and I always wondered.

    Thanks,

Just off the top of my head, it appears to be a sewer clean out. All the hosues I have ever owned have a similar pipe used to clean out the sewer line in case of a blockage.

Let me back up "Friar Chucks" answer.

By law we're required to install a sewer cleanout not over 18" off the house foundation on new construction and bring it up to grade. This is so that if the sewer line clogs up it can be taken care of outside instead of making a mess in the house. Regards, tom
