Why would a person get leg cramps in both legs I Just Had A Knee Replacement and I am still getting cramps

I get leg cramps from lack of potassium and vitamin D. My dad swore that a bar of soap between the sheets at night kept him from getting leg cramps. He heard that on KDKA news years ago.
