I was wondering if its true that eating a poppy seed muffin before a drug test can show positive Opium?

I've heard that it does show. I guess if you eat a lot of them it would show - depeding on just how sensitive the drug test was.

Do you think it would be weird to warn them? Be like, "Hey, if I test positive for Opium it cause of my Poppy seed muffin I had for breakfast."

Letting them know ahead of time might cause a problem. Most tests check for alcohol, THC and cocaine. Try and find out first what they are testing for. Poppy seeds can and do show up as "opium."

Warning them that there might be traces of opium due to a muffin might be suspicious, but asking what drug the test tests for isn't?

You've got a good point there. Just go to the drug test eating a poppy seed muffin, the rest is self explanatory. Kidding, unless you think it will work. ;)

I don't have a drug test for another three days... I was just curious as to whether this was true. I figure after four days, any "opium" that is in my system from the muffin has disappeared.

What I meant was, find out what the drug tests looks for in another way. Asking the test administrators is the same as asking about the muffin.

It is true that Poppy seeds are a derivative of the Opium plant, but in order to test positive for Opiates in your system, you would need to eat an insane amount of poppy seeds (which would undoubtedly make you sick to your stomach) in order to test positive. To prove the fact that a poppy seed muffin won't make you test positive for opiates on a drug test, I actually experimented with it (wanted to know myself). I had a drug screening for my work and I ate one for breakfast. No opiates in the system, and I still got the job.

Actually walking in eating a poppy seed muffin might not be that bad lol. If it comes up positive be like wait I heard this thing about poppy seed muffins but it sounded too ridiculous to be true.
