We just got an older Dachsund, Chihuaua mix. She came from a family who had her since she as born but couldn't keep her for her health. She doesn't understand why she came to live with us and is taking the absence of her family very hard. She cries a lot. What can I do for her?

If you can, go to that family and ask them if they have anything one of the family members used to wear... clothes, socks, whatever, that hasn't been washed yet. Give it to your dog... see if the scent will calm her down.
