    Renewng a lease
    Can A Landlord Renew Your Lease Without A Sigature From You... I Received A Letter Stating My Lease Is Renewed Because I Didn't Responed To A Letter That Was Sent Out... but My Lease Is Up April The 30th... I Am Moving The 23rd Of May... where I Live Has A Month To Month Option... so I Was Just Going To Pay For An Extra Month... so Can They Make Me Pay For Another Year If I Don't Agree To It... I live in Maryland

    You need to call them asap and let them know that you were not aware that by not responding to the letter that they would take it as renewal and then give them your 30 day notice. I don't think they can hold you responsible for a year if you did not sign an actual agreement.

    If you were going to move on Mary 23, you would have given your 30 day notice on at about April 1,

    But yes read your lease, many automatically renew ( depends on state) if 30 days before the end of it, you do not notify them.

    The reason why I didn't say anything to the landlord yet is because I had to look for a house first I was just approved for the house on the 22 and I know management where I'm moving had to call them to verify that I have been living here... then 2 days later they send my this letter stating my lease is renewed... I think not I will be callng them in the morning... I have no problem paying mays rent... but I refuse to pay for a whole year

    Well you need to read exactly what your lease says, I have seen many that automatically renew and they send out a notice normally 60 days before it is time to give you notice to inform them if you are moving.

    But you need to go and give them notice, and see if they sue you in court latter or not

    Sounds like the letter wasn't even sent out in enough time for him to respond.
    I think a large part of it working out on your side is how much in advance from your lease being up did they send the letter? How much time did they give you to respond?
    You say your on month to month now? So no I don't think they can get you for a full year.

    Sounds like an automatic renewal for a year (by written lease) unless you notify them 30 days before the original lease ends - and it sounds like you did not do that.

    You can certainly pay May's rent and refuse to pay after that but there is a good chance they will sue you to enforce the lease, automatic or not - it's still a binding lease depending on the original language.

    The first thing you need to do is read your lease. Many leases do have an automatic renewal clause that states you have to inform them x days prior to the lease expiration that you will not be renewing. If your lease does have such a clause they probably do not even have to send you a reminder, but did so as a courtesy. Did you, in fact, receive the reminder and ignore it?

    From what you have told us, its very likely the new lease is binding and you will have to negotiate a release from the landlord.
