:) I have a 15x30 above ground pool. With the terrible winter we have just experienced, the pool light is now leaking from what I can see out the exterior of the large plastic nut that retains the light to the wall. Dripping at a rate of about 40 per minute. Have tried to tighten with my hands but to no avail. " my question is should i drain water below the light before i try again with proper tools and possibly fracture the nut. will the liner shift?" the light was just installed last summer so it should not be terribly hard to remove or tighten properly. The light is installed at the end of the pool opposite of the skimmer and jet.

You will need to drain the pool down or it will just do it by itself anyway. You should totally remove the interior frame and gasket along with the lense. Check and maybe replace the gasket if needed. Be sure the frame is still flat and not warped, reinstall with silicone caulk on the gasket both sides.

Thanks for the response, water has been drained below the light,and have got around to removing the inside framing and gasket everything is fine there. Like you mentioned the wall itself has a tiny kink on the edge of the hole. Seems like I can straighten it out while the lens is not in the hole. But as I install the lens and tighten the outside nut it kicks back in and creates the kink again. Tried installing with gasket dry, and gasket with a little dishsoap. Both leave a void in the plastic lens where the gasket should be. Do you think installing the gasket with some silicone sealer will do the trick. Thanks again:confused:

That kink comes and goes because there is some sheet metal stress going on, I'd use a fair amount of clear or white silicone sealer on both sides of the gasket.
