On April 16, I had my cooling side of my unit checked. The repair person wrote "I found the cooling side of this system not functioning properly due to a bad outdoor fan motor. I also found the system low on R-22 Refrigerant @ pressures 150/35. I charged the system with 2 lbs R-22 and installed UV dye pack. The pressures are 195/60. The indoor coil was clean. The system is running properly". He also replaced the outdoor fan motor w/capacitor.

Today, I turned the unit on for the first time. The fan did not come on at all, I could hear the compressor running and slightly cool air was coming in through the vents. About 2 minutes after I turned it on, I heard this really loud motor-type noise and came in and quickly turned it off!

Best for you not to worry. If the service person was just there a week ago his work should be under warranty. There are NO user serviceable items in your unit So you cannot repair the unit yourself.

Sounds like the motor he put in is having a problem. Call them back and tell them you are having a problem with your unit and it was just repaired last week.

I might add that 2 pounds is a lot of refrigerant to add to a residential system especially when the head pressure only went up 45 pounds. If the temperature was mild when he charged it he could have over charged the system but I have no way to tell you since I was not there. When he comes if he removes some refrigerant that usually means he overcharged the system to start with.

Which fan is not working this time, is it the outdoor or the indoor blower. You indoor motor fan could be busted. I just had my blower motor replaced today. It's a BRYANT brand and I thought I was overcharged for $350.00

I'm from Lincolnwood, Illinois. Can anyone recommend a reliable/honest furnace repair shop?

She said it was the outdoor. Read her post. BTW 350.00 is about right considering all that goes into a HVAC shop.

I agree with hvac1000. Its not uncommon to get bad parts. If they are a reputable company they will not charge you any extra to come back out and make it right. $350 sounds good with the service call,fan motor,run capacitor and 2 lbs of freon.

Thanks for all your responses. Turns out that the same guy came out yesterday and somehow had not tightened something enough when he installed the new fan. He tightened it and it is working great now. I asked about the 2 lbs of coolant and he narrated 2 lbs but only charged me for 1 lb. Maybe after he wrote that, he only needed to put in 1? Like I said, I better stick to nursing. Thanks again!
