    Group B Strep (GBS)
For the longest time (a year and a half) I knew something was wrong with me (down under). Four obgyns said I was fine. Finally my GP diagnosed me with Group B Strep. I have been on 7 days of penicillin taken orally. Everything I have read says it should be given intravenously. Hopefully this works. I am wondering if it is possible for my boyfriend to have it as well. He shows no symptoms but I wonder if he should take the medicine too? This whole experience has been very draining and I don't want it coming back. Any help would be much appreciated as most of the information I find on this subject pertains to pregnant women, which I am not. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Xoxo, P

Group B strep is very common in women, actually it's part of the normal flora (normal bacteria) of some women.

I don't understand why you are being treated for it unless you are pregnant. It is only problematic when it comes to labor and delivery and should be treated IV within 24 hours before giving birth.

Thanks for the input! I actually spoke to my uncle last night who is an OBGYN. He said a similar thing. According to him, there are no real symptoms to GBS. And my problem must be something more along the lines of vaginosis. I have been so desperate to find a cause over the past year, I will try anything. I did the candida diet and lost 25 lbs, even was prescribed 30 days on diflucan, only to discover that yeast was never the problem to begin with. It's been draining t say the least. It's frustrating when you know something is wrong with you and everyone keeps telling you that you are OK. Xoxo,p

Is there an odor? Particularly after sex?

Umm... no real odor. Sour if anything. It is really only a problem during sex. It's a thick white discharge, looks like lotion. But does NOT act like a lubricant. It has killed my sex drive and made sex very uncomfortable for me.

I believe this is more of a bacterial problem than GBS... Quite possibly a yest infection (yeah, I know that's fungal), or bacterial vaginnosis.

I think the bacterial vaginosis is more likely. I did 30 days on diflucan (that left me really screwed up) and no test including a stool test ever had any yeast show. This problem did start up after a colonoscopy which is an interesting fact. Do you have any suggestions for how to treat vaginosis? Thank you for all of you advice! Xox

Antibiotics is the only way to treat vaginosis, and then some of those antibiotics tend to give a yeast infection...

So sometimes it's a catch 22 situation. You may want to get a second opinion.
