    Filing 1040 by mistake
This is the first time I file tax so there is all kind of problems.

Ok, I used Taxact to file a 1040A form instead of 1040NR-EZ. Is this a problem? If it is, how do I correct it? I filed my tax on April 22, 2008, which is late, but oh well.

I also filed form 8917 - tuition and fees deduction since I'm a student in a junior college, is that OK?

    Is anyone else claiming you.

But no you can file a 1040A if you want to, that is the proper form to use if you are going to use form 8917,

The EZ form is just that EZ, the 1040A is just harder to do,

And OK, if you were going to do EZ ( you don't even use a program, just pick up a form at the post office, why in the world is it late?

A Human, omg, a human just answered my question. Thank you so much for the quick response.

But I forgot to add that I'm on an F1 visa. I'm a bit worry that filing an incorrect form might affect me later on, so I would rather correct things now.

    No one is claiming me.

Should I just file an 1040X with the 1040NR-EZ attached? Or how else would I fill out the 1040X?

And there is this form 8843 - which every international students have to fill out, I'm filing that separately then, is that a problem?

How about my 8917 tuition and fee Deduction? Do I need to file it again?

Sorry for asking so much, but I'm learning though.

I'm in college, and only 18, tax is the last thing comes into my mind. It's late because I procrastinated... :o

You are exempt from residency for 5-years on F1 visa. For 2007 you need to file nonresident tax return.

Now you need to file Form 1040X, properly done non-resident tax return 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843. On nonresident tax return you will not get standard deduction, but you will get deduction as per tax treaty between the U.S. and your country.
