Hi again everyone! I want to raise my child support payments. It has been 4 years since they were established (child is 7 yrs) and I would like to raise them. Do I need a lawyer? Or can I just do it on my own?

If it is support you pay then yes you can increase it on your own (good idea to keep reciepts though). If it is support that you receive then you absolutely have to go through the court. Just contact your local child support office (they will know who you need to make a court date with). Then you go to court on your date and the judge will make his/her ruling about how much support is due.
Looking to see what state you are from?Quote:

Hi: check this: Indiana Child Support Calculator
Ok I know Indiana and as I said before you have to do so through court. You don't actually have to have a lawyer but you do have to make a court appearance. Which means making a court date in the family court and the judge will decide if an increase is appropriate. There is a small filing fee that I think is $45 but I'm not positive.
Has anything at all changed ? If there are factors that have warrented an increase you will need to go to the courts and be sure to have proof with you. If you just want to know if you can get an increase then that answer is maybe. Some states have made changes in recent times ( within last 4 years ) and you might go before a judge and they order a decrease. Really you need to check with a lawyer or state agency that handles this type of thing.
Be ready to prove his circumstances have changed. Monetarily
Ok. Cool. George I went to that site and came upon the paperwork to file myself without using a lawyer. So thank you. The reason I want to go is because he never told the courts that he owns his own business the first time around and my job has changed recently. Also they give a deduction for visiting in Indiana and he has't seen her in almost 4 years. Also... at the last the courts said he was to pay $89 and I said $70 would be fine if he would pay for any extracurricular activities. I want that changed. I have the paperwork now to file and I REALLY appreciate all of the help. I will let you know what happens!!
