    Clay Soil
What can I add to my son's yard to help all the grass we have sowed grow? It has mostly clay.

I was just trying to keep my question fresh in the minds of those people looking to help. I wasn't trying to insult or to have an inappropriate post.

If you look at the bottom of the page here, you will see a button that says unanswered questions. Expert members use that button frequently to see what has not been answered.

Now that your question has been answered, the experts in your area will just go to the Lawn & Garden section to hook you up with an answer.

No need to keep posting to keep it at the top of the list.

I wouldn't start a lawn on clay . I would till it and add gypsum and peat moss to the soil before seeding... or lay the lawn on a layer of top soil over the tilled clay . You may also want to mix clover in with the grass seed. It is great at producing nitrogen for the soil . When you mow do not bag ;Get a mower with a mulching blade . The clippings add nutients to the soil . I would probably aerate the lawn on an annual basis.

Thanks. The problem that I have is the grass has been sowed already; I am looking for a quick fix short of tilling the yard and adding the lime (gypsum) and peat moss. It looks like I will be tilling!!
