    Heavy periods, large clots
I'm 38, my period started yesterday and I can't even go an hour w/o changing. I'm also passing A lot of Large clots. I've had the heavy bleeding before, but not all the clots. Also, it seems to be a brighter red... I plan on calling my doctor in the morning, but wanted to know if I should worry.
    TIA:confused:

Different factors can be signs of different things. Did you start your period on schedule, but it is heavier than usual? If this is the case, it is possible that the lining of your uterus has simply thickened in excess this month, which can cause a period with clots anywhere from pea size to large grape sized. Sometimes larger. Is your period lasting LONGER than usual? Irregular? Changes could occasionally be caused by a fibroid in the carvix or uterus, and a small case does not need to be treated. An internal ultrasound in free of discomfort and a quick way to find these. If periods are on schedule but irregular only in flow volume and clotting, starting a birth control pill like YAZ can help to shorted their length even more, and lighten flow considerably. YAZ is a diuretic as well, so the side effect most likely is one of thirst. Never assume though, always ask your healthcare professional, as I do not know your medical history. I hope that this helps you, at least in knowing some questions your doctor may ask you, and which ones YOU should ask. Good luck tomorrow

I was having periods like that to and my doctor ordered a transvaginal ultrasound, they found some small fibroids in my uterus but they said it was nothing to worry about. They put me on birth control pills to control my bleeding.
