My pilot light on the water heater keeps being blown out after water is heated. It stays lit when just lighting. Suggestions?

Hey Sam:

Need to replace that thermocouple with a new thermocouple (sold at all home supply stores).

Pretty easy do it yourself project... does not require you to touch the gas piping... just replace the thermocouple (see pic. Below) and will be all set (comes rolled up, just unroll... DO NOT CRIMP! ).

I will agree if it is actally being blown out, check for air flow in the area and be sure the plate to close the access is closed.

But if it is just going out, it is most likely the thermocouple issue.

I doubt it is actually being "blown out"... but check what Fr. Chuck suggested (door in place? etc.)... instead the thermocouple is most likely defective and cannot engage the gas valve (creates mv signal via dissimilar metals) and therefore, gas valve shuts the flow of gas to the thermocouple/pilot tube.

It is a safety feature, so gas will not flow to unit when pilot flame goes out.

Change the thermocouple Sam... good luck... Mark
